Should I Start Tutoring Now or Risk the Wait?

🏠 ⟩ Should I Start Tutoring Now or Risk the Wait?

The first few weeks of school are always a whirlwind, and can certainly be a little overwhelming. Many students aren’t quite sure if they should start tutoring early, or wait to see how the first few weeks go. While this is not necessarily a bad strategy, it can come with more than a few problems.

When students wait to get academic help, there’s often a compiling effect from now fully understanding the early core concepts. All courses build on themselves: the basics you learn in the beginning have to be understood to advance. When students don’t quite grasp the fundamentals, the course only increases in difficulty as time wears on.

If you’re still not convinced, here’s a few benefits of beginning tutoring as soon as possible.

It Establishes a Routine Early

It’s true that juggling work, school, extracurriculars, and tutoring can be difficult. However, one of the pros of signing up for sessions early is that you get a feel for how it fits into your schedule, and there’s more time to make adjustments if needed. You can get used to what your days will look like, and get to know your tutor, before the added stress of exams emerges.

In sessions, you also have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the essentials of the learning management systems. If you’re still learning how they work, your tutor can take you through the website.

It Gives You Time to Grasp the Fundamentals

As previously mentioned, a thorough understanding of the basics taught in the first week is crucial to later success in the course. At Learnology, we always begin with fundamentals required, including going back to the previous grade to ensure understanding. It’s not enough to just know these skills on a surface level. Students must be able to apply them.

You Can Get Ahead

Often, when students start early in the year, there’s more time to get ahead in their coursework. Students often report that reviewing the material before learning it in class helps them to absorb the information, and take more thorough notes. Furthermore, when you’re ahead, you have a buffer in case that class must be placed on the backburner while another takes priority.

Start Tutoring Now – Save Yourself the Cram Later

If you come in a few days before your first test (or, in extreme cases, the day before), we have to cover more information in a much shorter amount of time. While we always do our best to teach efficientally, sometimes there just isn’t time for in-depth explanations and application-style questions.

Secure Your Preferred Time and Day

We always do our best to accommodate our student’s (and their parent’s) schedules. Unfortunately, as a busy establishment, we can’t always hold a certain time and day indefinitely. By letting us know your availability, and booking early, we can far better tailor your schedule to the available tutors.

Get Access to the Tips and Tricks

Our experienced tutors know the curriculum inside and out. Learnology can provide some tips for success in a given course that we’ve seen work over the years. There might be a concept that we’ll teach earlier than the curriculum typically does, as it provides important context. We can give advice about how to study depending on the class, and useful homework resources.

If you start tutoring early in the school year, students reduce their chances of falling behind. They can better adjust to their tutoring schedule, get ahead in their classes, and learn not to cram last-minute.
