6 Easy Ways To Prep For Back To School

🏠 ⟩ 6 Easy Ways To Prep For Back To School

Though there’s still a month left of summer, August passes surprisingly quickly. When school rolls around again, it can be a stressful transition for both students and parents. Along with new teachers, classes and materials, the change in routine is often jarring.

Luckily, there are some strategies to employ now to make back-to-school a little easier.

Review the basics from the previous year.

Over the summer, knowledge from the previous grades tends to fade. Since the curriculum builds on itself, this can make the start of the year feel like a game of catch-up. Take some time to go back over old notes, projects, assignments and tests.

    Make a schedule early.

As soon as you know your class schedule, work on sectioning your day in a way that works for you. This is a way to check in advance if students will have time for that extracurricular, when they’ll be doing homework, and if they anticipate needing any extra help. Knowing how your semesters are structured can help students feel more organized and prepared for those first few weeks.

      Read!

One of the simplest ways to expand vocabulary and keep your brain active during the summer is to read. Many students struggle with focus, reading comprehension, and general English skills upon the commencement of the school year. Reading can be a fun way to prevent this, while increasing your linguistic abilities.

        Set attainable goals.

It’s no secret that school is tough. Many students feel anxious from the pressure to get good grades. Others find focusing on the material to be challenging. Either way, setting some realistic goals gives a tangible target and can make school a little more interesting. Remember to focus on overall progress and effort, rather than just grades. For instance, aim to study for a few more hours a week this year, take more notes in class, or ask more questions.

          Get accommodations sorted in advance.

Accommodations are important to ensure everybody has equitable access to education. During the first few weeks back at school, the school administration will be flooded with tasks. The more organized a student is, the easier it will be to get their accommodations in place. Ensure you have the proper paperwork ready to go, which typically involves medical documents.
